Winter Book Club | With Her Own Hands: Women Weaving Their Stories

A season of reading, reflection and connection through textiles.

Registration for our 2026/27 Winter Book Club is now closed. We're delighted to have a group of members gathering throughout the winter to explore the stories held within textiles. While registration is closed for this season, we welcome your book suggestions for next year's club!

This winter, West Kootenay Fibreshed members are gathering around a good book.

From November through May, we're reading With Her Own Hands: Women Weaving Their Stories by Nicole Nehrig, an exploration of the ways women have used textiles to tell stories, express identity, preserve knowledge, build community and shape their own lives.

Textile traditions carry so much more than techniques. They hold histories, relationships, acts of resistance and the often overlooked contributions of makers across generations.

Together, we're exploring these stories one chapter at a time. Each month, participants read a chapter independently before gathering online to share reflections, ask questions and make connections to their own experiences and the wider world of textiles.

Our Winter Book Club is an opportunity to slow down, learn from one another and build connections within our growing Fibreshed community.

Help Shape Next Year's Winter Book Club

Although registration for this season has closed, we're already curious about what we might read together next winter!

Have you come across a book that explores textiles, fibre traditions, material culture, craft, or the relationships between people and the things we make?

We'd love to hear your suggestions as we begin dreaming up our next season of reading and conversation.
