Spin Class
Learn to spin wool into yarn on a spinning wheel with Danielle Soucie of Earthborn Textiles.
This three-week beginner series guides you through every step of the spinning process, from wheel setup to finishing your first skeins of handspun yarn.
Each week builds on the last. You’ll start by learning wheel anatomy, ergonomics, and basic drafting techniques, then move into troubleshooting, plying, and understanding fibre characteristics of various protein fibres. You’ll also learn how to finish your yarn - winding skeins, setting twist, and reading the qualities of your finished fibre for future projects.
Participants will complete at least three skeins of yarn during the course and leave with the confidence to continue spinning independently.
Each participant receives: Briggs & Little roving (New Brunswick), Custom Woolen Mills roving (Alberta), and handmade alpaca batts from Danielle’s herd (Argenta, BC). Tea will be provided, and children are welcome for parents attending.
