This three-session spring break lab introduces the journey of fibre through reclamation! Participants will learn how knitted garments are constructed, how to safely deconstruct them, and how to transform reclaimed fibre into a functional textile.
Participants begin by harvesting yarn from thrifted wool sweaters, learning to identify construction methods and suitable seams for unraveling. After unraveling, skeining, washing, and drying their yarn, participants wind it for reuse and apply foundational knitting or crochet skills to create a small finished cloth. Those ready for more may begin a simple, measurement-based hat.
This program is intentionally small-scale and materials-focused. Participants work with yarn they harvest themselves, with supplemental yarn added if needed to ensure everyone completes a finished piece. All materials are provided.
