Join fibre artist Danielle Soucie (Earthborn Textiles) for an evening artist talk and live spinning demonstration exploring the language of Ixtle (agave) fibre.
Location: Langham Cultural Centre | Kaslo, BC
Rooted in Danielle’s recent research in Oaxaca, Mexico and her ongoing place-based practice in Argenta, this talk traces the journey from plant to thread and the cultural stories carried within fibre traditions. Through images by photographer Louis Bockner, alongside live fibre processing and spinning, Danielle will share how communities across the world have historically worked with the materials growing around them to create clothing, tools, and everyday objects.
The evening will reflect on fibre as a language shaped by land, time, and shared knowledge, and on the surprising similarities between plant fibre traditions across cultures. A live spinning demonstration will offer a tactile, grounded look at how raw plant material becomes workable thread, connecting historical practices to contemporary textile work.
This event is open to everyone and invites curiosity about land-based making, community knowledge, and the role of craft in sustaining cultural memory.
There will be door prizes drawn at the event, providing the opportunity for folks to take home a physical remembrance of ixtle.
